War efforts spark advances in computing and interrupt developments in television. Victory over Germany and Japan after years of war in 1945. The liberation of the Nazi death camps revealed shocking measures taken the Nazi's against the Jewish population of Europe.  All these events raised unprecedented questions of morality as humankind tried to come to terms with the seemingly limitless potential for destruction it now possessed. One of the results was the development of major grassroots movements within Western democracy against atomic and other weapons of mass destruction.
