There was a young man who was
the nephew of a famous general. The nephew wanted to work with the army,
so he went to his uncle and asked for a position in his army. The general
gave him a position in the kitchen working as a cook. The young boy wanted
to be a solider, not a cook, so he resented his position. He resented it
so much that he stopped eating.
Every day he would cook and cook and cook, but not eat any of the food. The soliders all loved his food, so they ate a lot of it and grew bigger and stronger. But the boy grew skinnier and skinnier, like a chicken. One day the boy died of starvation. The soldiers all felt bad, so they put a guard uniform on his body and made him a soldier. Every night, when the sun set, they would put his body in the lobby of their castle to frighten away intruders. So the young boy got what he wanted after all. |
