Stanley, The City..... by Arthur P. Bollmann & Rita Chu

There was a tiger named Stanley. Things were tough in Stanley's native India, so Stanley went to America to seek gainful employment. Whn he got to America, a young couple hired him to guard their house.

The young couple was the envy of the nieghborhood, with their own watch-tiger. What the people in the neighborhood didn't know, but the young couple soon found out, was that Stanley only looked ferocious. He was actually a gnelte and loveable animal who liked nothing better than to watch old movies and eat popcorn. Soon, the young couple was afraid to leave Stanley alone at home, because they were afraid his benign nature can easily get himself into troubles. So they took him along with them on vacation.

When the couple and Stanley got back from vacation, they discovered that someone had broken into their house and stolen everything. Immediately, Stanley blamed himself, feeling that he should have been there. For a watch-tiger, it was such a shame. He let out a fierce roar, and dashed down the street, looking for the stolen goods.

After several days of searching, he saw a couch so familiar in a garbage can. Stanley searched every apartment in the neighbourhood, until he found the stolen goods in this house. Finally fulfilling his responsibility, Stanley licked everything he used to know so well and stretched out on the floor. He turned on the TV, made some popcorn from their popcorn maker, and settled down to watch an old movie. Before knowing what's playing, he had fallen asleep and was snoring.

At the door was the theives coming back. They heard his snoring and thought it was growling. As soon as they saw Stanley, they ran down to the police station and turned themselves in- it was better to be in jail than in a stomach. The Watch-Tiger, Stanley was a hero. The Mayor made Stanley an honorary member of the police department, and declared a holiday in his honor. The young couple got back their everything and made a big barrel of popcorn for Stanley.

And they all lived happily ever after.
