Self-image Statement
Artwork always should reflex the artist that is why there is an influence of my ideals and beliefs in my sculptures. Working in concrete and steel allows me to push the envelope of beauty. Creating from such a heavy and permanent medium allows me to believe that I have documented the experience of my existence. Personally, making conceptual artwork, I select issues that have emotional ties to myself. Confronting and examining my personal issues pushes me to think outside of the box. I am not afraid to break the rules. I create sculptures in these mediums because it is a way for me to break the traditional stereotypes of a typical male medium. Traditionally females in sculpture work in clay or textiles. I incorporate my femininity and my persona in my work. One has to be passionate about whatever one does. Without passion, life can be too sobering. It is very difficult to make something of quality if you don’t care about it. I really car about what I am doing. As an art teacher my goal is to allow students to also think outside of the box and make personal connections to the world around them through their art making process.
